every time i see someone insist meta knight doesnt care about kirby i think abt the ending cutscene of kpr where he’s heavily implied to have rescued kirby in the wake of the robobot armour’s destruction and then he lays them down gently on the grass to sleep
#it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment tho so i don’t fault anyone for not seeing it#lorena.txt#kirby

I'm having Hero of Yore thoughts today. I still haven't drawn my versions of them, but I did make some moodboards for Aegle and Castor (and his mech Pollux)!
First up and associated with yellow is Aegle, the Brilliant Botanist. They were originally trained as a healer, but they're stubborn as a weed and might not have the best bedside manners. There's a stark contrast between their bright and sunny robes and their somewhat sinister personality and ever-shrouded face. But Aegle could do more than heal. In fact, they became mainly an elemental mage and were perfectly capable of causing damage. Hippocratic oath? That hadn't been invented yet! Dark magic? More like an interesting experiment! Teaching the sheltered Galacta Knight to question authority? Easy as pie!
Aegle went all in on magic and didn't like technology much. Although they had to adapt and reluctantly admit science can do great things while working with their 'esteemed colleague', Castor.
Their staff (which is topped with what looks like a golden gem apple) let them create and guide water into sharp icicles, grow ensnaring vines to trap enemies and create blinding light. They loved botany, especially poisonous or carnivorous plants, and they also enjoyed enchanting and summoning magic weapons. It was them, alongside Galacta Knight, who invented the Spears of the Heart.
Name origin: I named them Lumio at first, but I changed it because:
It just means 'light', so it wasn't very original.
My brain kept flagging that name as a 'he' behind my back even though I decided the character was nonbinary pretty much the second I came up with them. Yes, I know this is stupid. Yes, the name change fixed it instantly. I hate this.
Anyway, since I'm apparently a sucker for sprinkling mythology into everything they're Aegle (dazzling light) now, which is the name of both:
The daughter of Asclepius and Lampetia, god of medicine and daughter of Helios, god of the sun respectively.
One of the Hesperides, nymphs of the evening/sunset and the shine of sunlight, who guarded a tree with immortality granting golden apples alongside a many headed dragon called Ladon. I had to do it.
Relationships with the other HoY: The reluctant conflict resolver (to get their quiet back), liked to study elemental magic with Galacta Knight. Tolerated Castor's pro-tech antics, but quietly disagreed because magitech can't work without magic, now can it? Mostly cordial towards Olympea.
Next up and associated with blue is Castor, the Enigmatic Engineer, alongside his mech Pollux, the Mechanical Marvel. Together they would be the Stalwart Symbionts.
A hard worker, Castor relied heavily on science and machines. He built a name for himself as a stern and austere man who has an uncanny knack for engineering and little tolerance for silliness, sentimentality and lazing around. While he designed many weapons in the past (mostly out of professional curiosity) and felt little guilt over that, he later dedicated much of his time towards developing improved prosthetic limbs. (With some reluctance he had to admit enchanting them offers benefits like allowing fine motor control and helping the wearer feel what they're touching.) He rarely showed it, but helping people did make him feel fulfilled.
In the little time off he let himself have he liked to paint. Not that he would ever show anyone this little hobby, of course! Just like he rarely let anyone see him outside of the cockpit of his mech Pollux. It's not easy to be taken seriously when you are ultimately just a squishy little guy, after all.
He and his mech Pollux were inseparable. It had the ability to boost and its battle mode was outfitted with several weapons. (I, uh, still need to figure out which ones. But probably laser beams, bombs or rockets. Possibly rocket fists. Maybe a sword like Metal General?) While Pollux was hardly alive, it was no mere machine. In some ways it was even autonomous. Did it care about Castor? Much like how the Robobot Armours Kirby used retrieved the memory of Kirby every time he entered one, Pollux's AI and memory could be transferred between bodies too. Almost as if it's immortal in a way.
So. You know how you fight Metal General in Egg Engines? Somebody had to have built it, right? Who's to say Castor didn't make a prototype before he perfected Pollux, but could not give it a heart? Perhaps he couldn't bring himself to scrap it and repurposed it as a security robot. Only to die and leave his lesser creation to roam its post forevermore, chained by its rigid programming.
Name origin: The two of them are of course named after the mythological twins/half-brothers Castor and Pollux, who were remarkable horsemen and boxers, as well as the namesake of the constellation Gemini. As the mortal Castor lay dying, Pollux sacrificed part of his immortality to let Castor live, after which they alternated between Olympus and Hades.
Relationships with the other HoY: Didn't like 'Aeon' at all, at least at first, thought he's stuck up (envied his inborn power). Bickered about whether technology or magic is better with Aegle, gave in sometimes but secretly shook his head at them because magic enjoyers use technology all the time while saying their magic is better (hypocrites)! He got along with Olympea the best (she liked his gadgets). This was not awkward whatsoever.
Themes
Because the Ancients fell apart into a technological and a magical faction I knew I wanted the four Heroes of Yore to reflect that. So I made them rely on magic and technology to varying degrees. Two all in on opposing sides and two in between. I did think about having them map to the classes in Super Kirby Clash, but figured that was too restrictive. Besides, Galacta Knight doesn't map to those either (unless you consider him the Sword Hero parallel). So while they do share some traits like their pink, yellow, green and blue colour schemes— I decided they didn't have to match perfectly. 'Sword Hero' is actually Galacta Knight with his lance and shield, 'Hammer Lord' prefers a club over a hammer and has other weapons including a glaive, 'Beam Mage' has elements of 'Doctor Healmore', instead of a dedicated healer we have a mech user (who shoots laserbeams), etc. If you squint there are some parallels to the Dream Land quartet, but I didn't make each of them map perfectly to one person either.

🍅 (what copy ability would starstruck give), ⚡️(what power effects would starstruck give if any), and 🍨 (what the robobot mech might look like with starstruck as the pilot) for the ask game!
[ >>> kirby oc ask meme <<< ]
🍅 answered here, but i will add that some other shortlisted ones were archer, burning, and copy or mirror!
⚡️ (Lightning Bolt) - Which Power Effects [Blizzard, Bluster, Sizzle, Splash, Zap] would their attacks grant? Do they have any particular weaknesses or resistances, elemental or otherwise?
i think she might not grant one and instead might receive them, BUT if she could grant one i think she would grant bluster. it's an air element, and also at least imo, gives bandee in particular one of the most enjoyable enhancements with his waddle copter and spear throw i think broadly she is weak to everything but also nothing. she's quite physically sturdy!
🍨 (Ice Cream) - The Invader Armour undergoes a drastic transformation depending on its pilot. If they were to wield it, what appearance would their mech take on? What abilities would it have?
w... would she not just... 😂
but genuinely i do think her aesthetics are pretty similar to kirby's; pink and stars! so it might very well be quite similar to this, if not a marginally different shade. maybe it would have an openable panel on the back that spread out to make a shape like her bow, like a beetle carapace! could have rotors a little like parasol mode but they'd be star-shaped and glassy, and would move around all over the place to deflect attacks. would be mostly evasion and ranged based! or maybe, being a waddle dee, it would become compact like the walker waddle dee armour, except that the rocket launcher would be shooting off multicoloured blasts of space dust
#i hadn't ever thought about the armour for her before so this one got me pondering a little bit more creatively!#thankfully her aesthetics are already sooooo closely aligned to kirby's that everything already matches her#pink and stars supremacy#asks#starstruck dee#ask meme

Currently battling to get the 30th Ann Kirby Nendoroid. I think I got scammed again lmao. I was holding it off due to space but I realised they'll stop selling it soon so I wanted to get it before it's scalped to hell and back. Idk how much the Robobot armour was when it came out, but I see it at 200 minimum second-hand.

Best Kirby enemy, copy ability, gimmick, and (non magoloser) final boss
Ahhhh this is a pretty tough choice... it's hard to choose just one of these! For Kirby enemy, I suppose I probably haven't seen them all since I've not played all the Kirby games, but when I first played Star Allies I really took a liking to Vividria. As for copy ability... I really like the old design of mirror (maybe because it reminds me a bit of a certain jester haha). When it comes to the gimmicks, I unfortunately have only been able to play the Kirby games available on switch without the nintendo online expansion pass, but I'd say using the Super Abilities is really fun, the idea of mixing abilities in 64 is a pretty cool concept, and the robobot armour I have yet to be able to try, but it seems like it'd be pretty fun to go around in! Now, for the final boss. I haven't been able to play all the Kirby games, but regardless, I really enjoy Marx. His boss battle in Super Star was very fun and a bit challenging, I really like his design (who WOULDN'T like a chaotic Jester character), plus he was actually the first character to get me into the Kirby series! When I first found out about him some way or another, I immediately opened up my copy of star allies (which I'd barely touched at that point) and started grinding to get him as a playable character haha. Thanks for the ask! It was fun to think about

I will say that out of all the Kirby games that have had... let's call them 'gimmicks' (Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot)...
I think Robobot did it best.
The problem with the super powers and Hypernova was that they slowed down the pacing of the game quite a lot. The Super powers basically caused a small cutscene every time you used them, and the Hypernova parts were usually pretty slow going as well, from what I remember, because practically everything you did with it also caused a cutscene.
With Robobot? You got a small cutscene of Kirby taking over the robot armour, and then you went on your way. Copying powers with it didn't take any longer than it normally took Kirby to do so, and you were just set on your way to go do what Kirby does best... innocently destroy everything!

So, although Kirby couldn’t transform in the first game (Kirby’s dreamland); he could still inhale, swallow, spit out, jump and float; and he was designed around all that, which is probably why he is round like a balloon. So the first game is very barebones but it still set up the basics of Kirby.
The second game (Kirby’s adventure) is where it starts to get interesting, with transformations first appearing here. Some of the staples, such as fire, ice or sword, begin in this game; with each of them only having one attack and only parasol being usable underwater.
The dark matter trilogy :
Now, we get to Kirby’s dreamland 2; with everybody’s favorite being introduced, Dark Matter (DM for short). The concept of allies is also introduced in this game, with Rick, Kine and Coo. Each transformation has one attack per friend; making a whopping four different attacks with a single button. There is also the bad end, which happens if you don’t collect all of the collectibles and it’s a concept unique to the DM trilogy
(Small note, I will talk about super star later but it came out here)
In Kirby’s dreamland 3, the boss of the DM, Zero, appears for the first time. Same concepts as the previous game, but with more animal friends.
Kirby cristal shards, a switch from 2D to 2.5D, meaning that the background can be interacted with and they used that a lot for this game. This game also marks one of the two apparition of transformation combination. Zero 2 appears and is a wild problem when looking for pictures on google. Also where most of the cursed Kirby images come from.
Now comes the drought, with either small games or remakes
First came nightmare in dreamland, which is a remake of adventure
Then came the amazing mirror, which is a confusing game, both in lore and gameplay
Then squeak squad, where google can help you more than I can.
Then came super star ultra, which is a remake of super star, which contains a lot of interesting game modes such as : Milky Way Wishes, where swallowing an enemy did not give you a transformation; a few small games of smaller importance; and the arena, which is a boss rush. In ultra, they added two remakes of the first game and the True Arena, which becomes a staple of the serie, containing the Ex or equivalent forms of the bosses.
Now begins the modern era, where each game has a gimmick :
First is Return to Dreamland, which contains the super abilities.
Second is triple deluxe, which contains the supernova fruit.
Third is planet Robobot, which contains the Robobot armour and is, in my opinion, the peak of 2D Kirby.
Fourth is star allies, which contains the friend heart and the second occurrence of transformation combination.
And finally is Forgotten Land, which is a 3D Kirby game and has transformation upgrades.
You’ll notice that I didn’t talk much about the modern era, that’s because the best things they have are spoilers.
Ever since the first game, there has been an extra mode except for the DM trilogy and the drought games (except super star ultra). This extra mode usually contains : stronger enemies, changed patterns for bosses, additional lore, reduced health, in forgotten land, it’s a follow up to the story and in return to dreamland deluxe, it’s the canon mode.
Would you like to hear me ramble about how Kirby is peak?
Yes.

the correct answer, if not kirby, is gooey.
we dunno much about gooey's abilities outside of what is shown in the dark matter trilogy and in ksa. and gooey most definitely doesn't have all of kirby's abilities (i mean, probably. again, we don't know much about gooey).
but in dream land 3, gooey has the same amount of mastery over the available copy abilities as kirby does. it may be safe to assume gooey would be able to demonstrate mastery over other copy abilities that weren't in dl3, and would have a similar amount of moves as kirby and the helpers are shown to have in kirby super star and onwards.
even without kirby's many other notable abilities (like having a literally-bottomless stomach, probably; the copy palette, probably; 64's power combos, probably; everything epic yarn; hypernova; robobot armour; mouthful mode, probably…) gooey shares many abilities of kirby, and in many cases is just as strong as he is.
gooey is very pensive—a resourceful opponent might try to take advantage of that, but even preoccupied with many scattered thoughts, he can still kick some major ass.
i’m not a powerscaley type because i feel like “who would win in a fight” is very dependent on mindset and context and environment but i also like analyzing characters to the bone and that includes their combat skills. that being said: who do yall think is the strongest dream friend

headcanon dump below. they probably aren’t super original but I :)
I also just wanna mention a thought I had: I suspect we will b seeing morpho knight in a main game storyline in the next game, since he was gonna appear in the Kirby GCN (I assume this means they had quite a bit of lore and stuff to go with him so they’ve had him prepared for a while). also consider: Kirby RtD was the replacement. The next few games where meta knight is fought, he has yellow eyes. Basically my theory is that they didn’t want to have two characters with white eyes (probably so there wasn’t any conflicting lore idk) so they just went and changed meta knight’s because they deemed that the most plausible option. this also could actually serve as more proof of morpho being much more important to the lore of the series, even aside from his supposed appearances as a butterfly. I bet he is gonna have something to do with the warp star (concept for Kirby GCN was that dedede stole Kirby’s warp star so morpho was somehow involved) - Most puffballs only have one or two abilities, or can broaden magic use through one ability (eg galacta Knight’s attacks, for example, are all used through the base sword ability however aren’t limited to that). - Kirby is unique as he has the copy ability (which counts as one ability in itself rather than hundreds). it’s an almost legendary ability with no other recorded holders. Special baby boy.
- Although puffballs do have to consume a lot of food to deal with being partly composed of potent magic (as well as using it), Kirby has to consume sooo much more. he’s not a glutton (as the books describe), he is just hungry almost all of the time because he’s always beating the shit out of eldritch beings. The novels annoyed me so much with this aspect of Kirby!!!!!! he’s not that shallow!!! baby boy is just trying to physically cope with being able to slap the shit out of cult gods!!!
- Kirby’s copy ability works by basically inhaling an object/opponent with a specific magic signature, then concentrating it into a strengthened version of that ability Kirby can then utilise (hence his “infinite power”). - Kirby can’t deal with immense amounts of magic for a long period of time, as it also uses his own magic/energy up in the process. This is why normal copy abilities are fine for an extended period of time, and the super copy abilities have a time limit on them. (This is also why he can’t just go inhale void termina or some shit bc he would probably end up imploding. it’s also why the crash ability is single use)
- The super abilities basically involve Kirby combining a small amount of his own energy with the magic signature of the ability, and then concentrating it, producing a much stronger version of the original ability. Kirby probably ended up putting in a much larger amount of his own energy when trying to defeat magolor. (Ultra sword go brr)
- Puffballs eventually get wings at some stage in their life. They usually get them after a few hundred years but they can appear early if conditions are bad enough. Kirby’s will probably be feathered. I think the lore of the series will benefit from having two pink puffballs with feathered wings. pls also note the halberd mode robobot armour has softer looking wings, and the visor Kirby has on the star allies sparkler has little wings on the side of it.
- Meta Knight and king dedede did eventually get over their rivalry with Kirby. The events of KRtD were definitely a big part of it, and by the end of it they were probably pretty good friends. They both realised Kirby was way too strong for either of them to beat, and did have Dreamland’s interests in mind. Since Kirby is also only a kid they also felt compelled to act more adult-like, rather than trying to beat the shit out of a child.
- After the events of KRtD, king dedede basically invited Kirby, mk, and bandee to the castle for an overnight stay, since everyone was exhausted by the end of the ordeal. Although breakfast the following morning was tense at first, Dedede basically explained he wanted to formally end any rivalry he had with Kirby, and encouraged meta knight to do the same.Meta Knight still secretly wanted to beat Kirby at least once but the events of both planet robobot and star allies probably ruined it for him
- King dedede is actually a fairly competent leader, despite mainly just being a representative for dreamland as a whole. It did take him a while to grow into his role, but after he let go of his rivalry with Kirby he really settled in. He’s generally pretty placid on most days, and plays a lot of board games with the dees.King dedede invites bandee, Kirby, and mk for morning tea/lunch every now and then. The castle kitchen usually has to prepare at very least a day in advance to accomodate Kirby’s appetite.
- Kirby isn’t allowed more than 3 cups of tea or half a cup of weak coffee. the first time ddd ever invited Kirby for tea he did not consider how Kirby would respond to any amount of caffeine.
- Kirby is probably closest with mk, especially since Kirby knows mk looks very similar to him. He doesn’t ask mk about it though, as he sees that’s a very personal question.
- Mk acts as more of a very uninvolved father figure/mentor, mainly since Kirby is pretty independent and can defend himself.
- He regularly trains Kirby with the sword ability. Meta Knight used to originally do this to try and memorise Kirby’s attack patterns given that they may fight again in the future, but, as mentioned before, doesn’t do this anymore. He feels guilty about it.
-Meta Knight taught Kirby how to read. Kirby is a fairly proficient reader, although he likes to read cooking books the most because of all the pictures.
-Kirby is good at cooking, even without the copy ability.
- Meta Knight owns what could be considered a small library. Kirby is allowed to borrow a book or two for about a week at a time. He is forbidden from the horror section due to the one time where he accidentally chose a particularly scary one and wouldn’t leave castle dedede for a week.
-Kirby doesn’t speak in poyo. I don’t have much else to say on this. -Kirby can be a little shit on very rare occasions. Dedede tried to prank Kirby once by getting him to eat a very very spicy curry. Unbeknownst to dedede at the time, Kirby has a very high heat tolerance, and would probably have to eat something more than 1 million on the Scoville scale to actually feel distress. Kirby noticed that it was unusually hot, and that dedede was watching him intently. He pretended it wasn’t spicy at all, then persuaded dedede to try it.
-Dedede does not have a heat tolerance anywhere near as high as Kirby’s.

#(Nintendo/HAL Laboratory I am once again asking for your OST CDs to release outside of Japan)#(but barring that if you release CDs for the Kirby 30th Anniversary Music Fest and KatFL I will import them soooooooo pretty please?)
